About

Butterfly imageIn February 2010, I started a blog called “The Healing Project,” which is focused on healing both my health and my life in one year.  This quest incorporates the teachings of Louise Hay (“You Can Heal Your Life”), as well as other key spiritual and personal growth leaders (read more here).

As I’ve been deepening both my self-awareness and my focus on healing, I’ve noticed that body image issues are still highly prevalent in my life.  I say “still” because I suffered from eating disorders for a number of years and have long struggled to love and accept my body.

“Body Image Rehab” is born!

I decided to create a sister blog to “The Healing Project” which will be focused on healing my feelings toward and perceptions of my body.  Similar to my original blog, the mission of “Body Image Rehab” is to heal my body image issues over a period of one year.  To do this, I will explore all relevant issues related to my body and my physical appearance.  I will be steadfastly honest and open in my writings.  I will post about both my struggles and my wins, and I will ponder matters big and small.

My Hopes for this Blog…

Body freedom...It is my hope that this blog will not only serve to heal my body image.  My heartfelt wish is that my writings will help countless other women (and perhaps some men as well) who are engaged in battles with their own bodies.

I feel that we all deserve to love ourselves and our bodies.  We are all worthy of feeling free to be ourselves and proud of who we are and what we look like.

I know this journey won’t be easy.  After all, the war between my mind and my body has been going on for three decades as I write this.  But I’ve had enough!  I am ready to wave the white flag of surrender and end the war.   I encourage those who are reading this to join me on my path toward empowerment, self-love, and freedom. I have a feeling we’re in for an exciting ride…

Blog Structure

Blog posts will be categorized as follows:

  • Exercises – Exercises from “200 Ways to Love the Body You Have” and other related books.
  • Articles – Articles about body image and related topics that I feel will be of interest to my readers.
  • Celebrity Stories – Stories about and quotes by celebrities on the topics of body image, weight, and eating issues.
  • Wins/Challenges – Personal triumphs and difficulties encountered during my quest to love and accept my body.
  • General - This category includes posts which do not fit into any of the categories above (i.e. “Welcome” post and this post).

I may decide to add other post categories moving forward.   This blog is a “work in progress” and I’m sure I will want to make changes as time goes by.

Feedback Welcomed!

I welcome reader feedback on all of my blog posts.  I am also open to suggestions of topics to cover and how to improve this blog. Although the blog started as a personal journey, it is my hope that it will evolve into a means for helping others with their own “body image rehab.”
