I have been very sick with the flu since last Wednesday evening and haven’t been able to write a new blog post as a result. However, while surfing the internet in recent weeks, I have read a few good articles on the topic of body image. This post briefly summarizes these articles and includes links so you may read the full articles if desired.
“Still Afraid to Wear That Bikini?”
This article by Robert M. Tornambe is about learning to own your beauty, which means to accept and recognize the beautiful and characteristic traits you already possess. It is a brief but powerful article that touches upon the issues of plastic surgery, body image, and confidence. “Reality TV Breeds New Body Ideals”
This article appeared on CNN.com about a month ago. It mainly focuses on the Kardashian sisters (Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe) and how their popularity is helping to expand societal definitions for what is considered an ideal or attractive woman’s body. These women have been splashed on the cover of many a magazine in recent months and it’s refreshing to see… curves!
Although I don’t watch “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” or “Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami,” I have to applaud the presence of any celebrities or shows which help to broaden the spectrum of beautiful female body shapes in our society. To read the CNN article, click here.
“What Snooki Taught Me About Body Image”
This iVillage article discusses a variety of reality TV stars and gives them each a grade in terms of the lessons their actions are teaching audiences about body image. The grades range from “A” (Snooki from “Jersey Shore”) to “F” (Heidi Montag) and the lessons include the following:
- Work with what you’ve got.
- A great sense of humor, lots of fruit and veggies, and a little good tequila can make you beautiful inside and out.
- Apparently, you can spot train.
The article is both entertaining and insightful and can be accessed here.
I hope you enjoy these articles. In addition to posting original content, I will periodically link to articles which I feel may be of interest to my readers.
I will be back soon with some new posts to “Body Image Rehab.” In the meantime, I wish you peace, love, and most of all, health!
